Prepared by:
Objectives:
In this lesson you are expected to:

 Define geometric series

 Determine the partial sum of an infinite and finite geometric series

Recall!

A geometric sequence is a sequence in which each term

after the first is obtained by multiplying the preceding
term by a constant (called the common ratio).

A common ratio is obtained by dividing a term to its

preceding term.
Activity: Find the next two terms of the geometric sequence

1. 7,14,28, ____, 112

56 ____.

192 ____.
2. 3,12,48, ____, 768

50 ____.
3. 400,200,100, ___,

2 ___.
4. 1/4, 1/2,1, ___, 4

-24 ____.
5. -3,-6,-12, ____, -48
A geometric series is the sum of the terms in a geometric sequence.
The associated geometric series with n terms is given by:

Ex. 1+ 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 Ex. 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + …
Sum of finite or partial sum Sum of infinite geometric sequence

Note: The sum of infinite geometric sequence is only applicable when
