DEEP BREATH RELAXATION TECHNIQUES

Relaxation is an effective method for


reducing pain which is an unpleasant
sensory and emotional experience with
a mechanism that stops the cycle of
pain.
Smeltzer & bare states that the purpose of deep breathing
relaxation techniques is to increase alveoli ventilation,
maintain gas exchange, prevent lung atelectasis, increase
cough efficiency, reduce stress both physical and
emotional stress, namely reducing pain intensity and
reducing anxiety.

Create a calm environment


Try to stay relaxed and calm
Inhale deeply through the nose and fill the lungs
with air for a count of 1,2,3
Slowly exhale through the mouth while feeling
the upper and lower extremities relax
• Suggest breathing at a normal rhythm 3 times
