Shruti PRAKASH

INTRODUCTION

I am from Mumbai, India. I have completed my Bachelors in

Film, T.V. and New Media Production. I also interned as a writer
in an Independent Film Company called Planet Vix. I am a
member of India’s Screenwriter’s association
Why I
WRITE?

I started writing in journals, expressing over there was always a lot easier for me. Then
gradually writing became something that really spoke to me. The most interesting part of
this was that when I wrote my own experiences and feelings, I was inspired to blend these
with fiction.

CREATIVE QUESTI
ONS

PROCESS • When I start working on something new, I create

a list of plot points and lists of character arcs and
the story arc in general.

• I also tend to ask questions like, why do I want

to tell this story? What is the message I want to
give to the readers? Ask questions about my
character.
CREAT IV E MUSIC
PROCESS

• Listening to music helps me create a flow to my work

• I use music as a catalyst that speeds up my thought

process.

• Contrary to speed, it also tends to bring a sense of

pause, when a lot of things about a particular character
or a situation is going through in my mind.

PROCESS
STORY

Mostly my stories stem from a place of

trauma, a particular character goes
through. I tend to build up on their pain
and try to give them a way to cope up
with that pain.
STORY

I put more emphasis on vivid description to make

it more visual. While writing in such an
imaginative way, I feel it gives the reader more
space to create the visuals I intend on paper.
MYSTERY
GENRE

Mystery has always been an interesting genre of writing. It attempts to lure

the readers into a loop of questions, predictions and a drastic turn of
events.

I like to write mysteries because it is something that excites me as a reader,

I have grown up reading Nancy drew, The Famous Five and since then, I
have been a fan of mysteries in general.
RECURRING THEME

DEATH

In my stories/scripts, at least one of the character dies. It

occurs in everything I write. One of the major reasons is
because death always adds an extra layer of intrigue in the
story.
POEM
The poems I write are mostly based on my personal
experience and memories.
The style I'm most comfortable with attempting while
doing poetry is free style.

What I find really interesting while creating poetry is

the use of enjambment. Playing with the white spaces
in poetry really helps me to convey the emotions more
strongly.
SCRIPT
Before starting a screenplay, there is a process of
various small steps that I go through. It starts with
a basic synopsis, etching out character sketches,
character motives (if need be)

Research will go into the locality, nuances of the

characters such as their speaking style or any
peculiar action.

The setting will be established clearly. Anything that

requires special attention before starting out the
script such as budget restrictions will be considered.

PERSP
ECTI
VES This is the script of a short film where the audience
will be shown, two different perspectives of the same
situation that occurs in a particular house. Each
Perspective will have two different protagonists and
only in the end, it will be revealed who is the main
protagonist, there is a twist in the end.

The structure of the film itself is the unique selling point of the
film. There are certain elements of the scripts such as the setting
and the character angles, can be worked on and make it more
polished to be able to market it and pitch it. As of now, this script
has it’s structure, characters and conflicts laid out.
