Health Care System in Czech Rep.
− compulsory public health insurance
− 1 insurance company (IC) established by the state
− 6 private IC

− insurance paid by employee + employer or by the state (children,


pensioner, unemployed, …)

− free care – in the facility with the contract with the IC of the patient

Physiotherapy – History
• after WWII – rehabilitation workers (nurses → rehabilitation
nurses, …), spa physicians → „physiatry“
• 1937 – the first Department of Rehabilitation
– part of the Neurology Clinic at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles
University, Prague → „Prague School“
→ prof. Lewit, MD – Manipulative therapy
→ prof. Janda, MD – Muscle Function Testing, Sensorimotor
stimulation
→ prof. Vojta, MD – Vojta method
Physiotherapy – History
• 1982 – Rehabilitation and Physical Education Programme
– first programme related to Physiotherapy at university
– Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (Charles University,
Prague)

• 1991 – Physiotherapy Programme at FPC (Palacký University)
Physiotherapeutic Care – Present
− provided by Physiotherapists with acquired competence – since
2004 only Bachelor and Master degree programmes at
universities

− postgraduate education – special courses (joints’ mobilisation


techniques, neurophysiological concepts – Bobath, PNF, DNS,
…)
Physiotherapeutic Care – Present
− based on the diagnosis and therapeutic goals defined by
physician and own assessment

− without physician’s indication – prevention, education and


counselling only

RRR Centrum – Covering the costs by IC
− based on:
− the list of procedures by insurance companies (more or less the same
for all) – e.g. techniques based on the neurophysiological approaches
(Bobath concept, PNF, …) = 524 pts in 2019

− the decree of the Ministry of Health Care establishing the value of 1


point for all professions (for Physiotherapy in 2019 = 0.81)
524*0.81 ≈ 424 Kč ≈ 18.7 USD

− all costs have to be approved by the physician reviewer


RRR Centrum – Tariff for cash payment
− complex examination by physician (60 min.) ≈ 31 USD
− initial physiotherapeutic examination (45 min.) ≈ 20 USD
− individual therapy (30 min.) ≈ 13 USD
