Folksong – are songs written by the folk and
are sung to accompany daily activities such as
farming, fishing and putting the baby to sleep.
These are traditionally passed on orally. Most
Philippine folksongs have Spanish and other
western influences.
It performed in his /her native language
such as Ilocano, Pangasinense, Kapampangan,
Tagalog, Bicolano and Others.
Characteristics of Folk songs:
1.Originally passed down orally to the family,
and to the other members of the community
2. Learned through rote / memorization.
3. Sung in his / her own dialect or according to
their native tongue.
4. Unknown composers and lyricist.
5. Begins in one key and ends in the same key
6. Mood can be sentimental, playful and
humorous.
7. Simple key signature of the song.
8. Primarily based on the community’s culture,
tradition and livelihood.
9. Duple, triple or quadruple are common
meter used.
10. Short and simple.
