Marriages in UAE Before and Now

 Background
• In UAE Wedding confirms with Sharia Law.
• Traditional Bedouin Wedding was performed
in the past.

As per Bedouin Philosophy

“Marriage is not only a relationship between man

and woman but between families”

• Function was kept simple and arranged at

home with no wastage of money.
 Literature Review

• Weddings in UAE were simple back then but now are heavily
influenced by Weston cautions and international customs (Am,
2017).

• In the United Arab Emirates, getting married has become an

expensive prospect and some Emirati men use this as an
excuse to wed someone from a different social class (Bristol-

 Challenges

• Time Constraints
(I’m worried about not having enough time to collect the parents’ or couple’s responses because I’m
sure as married couples, they have other more pressing responsibilities, and they may not be free
enough to answer my interview questions in time )
• Designing Interview Questions
(As I have to record response of three different categories of participants, so designing a
questionnaire that adequately works for all the groups will be challenging for me)
• Behavioral Influence
(the answers recorded may be influenced by the behavior of the respondent and failed to provide
honest or proper actual answer of the presented question)
 Why This Topic

 Marriages are frequently observed sacred events in

UAE communities and is like a necessity in a society.

 As every other aspect of life, the tradition of Marriage

is also changed a lot with the passage of time.

 Connecting the past with the present always develops

interest and provide information regarding the
alterations in any event and reasons behind those
changes.

 Same is the reason that lead me to opt Marriage in UAE

as my topic of research.
