Q: Can other people know you better than
you know yourself?
Practical personal exercice:

• Choose one person from the different social groups you are a member of:
• 1. Your closest family (parent/guardian, sibling)
• 2. Your closest friends
• 3. Your extended family (eg a grandparent or cousin)
• 4. One of your classes in school
• 5. A club/team/religious community you are a member of
Ask them three questions after you have first
answered them yourself:

• 1. How they see you ten years from now? (occupation, civil status, where you will live
etc)
• 2. One quality of your they wish they had.
• 3. One quality of yours they would like to see change.

• Compare the answers and reflect upon the initial question: Can other
people know you better than you know yourself?
What conclusions can you draw from the answers
you got?

• Do other people have more knowledge


of you than you do about yourself?
• Is self-knowledge more than other
people´s knowledge of you?
• It may be worthwile to look at the
different ways in which self-knowledge
is linked with the presence of others.
