INTRODUCTION
Insects Pest comes in thousands of different species throughout the world. Each species is constrained to the
locations that are easily accessible and offer it the food and other necessities it requires.
An average rice crop loss of 37% is thought to occur each year as a result of pests and diseases, which seriously
harm crops ( IRR 2022).
Studies have shown that although Filipino farmers adopt modern grains of rice at a high rate, they significantly
diverge from national recommendations in their management practices (Litsinger et al. 2009). Farmers have learned
to deal with a variety of issues and challenges they encounter during the farming season as a result of modernization
and innovation over the years. Other farmers' extensive use of chemicals has caused the soil to become excessively
acidic, contaminated the water, and killed beneficial insects and pest. (Escabarte & Montecalvo, 2012).
Proper identification and knowledge of insect pests are necessary for developing efficient insect pest control.
Thus, this it could be helpful in the production of rice through the identification of harmful and beneficial insects in the
field, as insect pests are the main problem in rice production, it affects the rice plant leading to a reduction in
measurable yield, utility, or economic return (Nasiruddin & Roy, 2012). However, most farmers were entirely unaware
of the beneficial insect found in rice crops. They had poor knowledge and recognition of harmful and beneficial insects
(Asghar, 2010). The identification of insects associated in rice crop in Paniquihan, Baras, Catanduanes, Philippines, is
necessary to determine the health of the field. It also allows the rice farmers to plan integrated pest management
strategies and proper farming practices.

This research topic indicates the Diversity of Insect pest on rice field of Paniquihan, Baras, Catanduanes. The
research topic objective was to identify insect pest and examine insect abundance during rice growth stages and it’s
varieties & diversity to provide a theoretical basis for the sustainable control of rice pests.
This research topic was conducted to analyze the diversity

STATE of insect pest on rice field of Paniquihan, Baras, Catanduanes.

This research topic aimed to determine the following question:

MENT  1.What are the common insect pest that can

01 be found on rice field of Paniquihan, Baras,

OF 02
Catanduanes and it’s diversity ?

 What are different varieties of insect

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
OF THE STUDY
This research topic focuses on the Diversity of
Insect Pest on Rice field of Paniquihan, Baras,
Catanduanes, In which discusses the different
varieties of insect and provide further data about IPM.
However the result have been found that there are
some insects varies and visits according to the stages
and growth of the rice plant, depending on the
seasonal changes. These other insects are not
covered by the research because of seldom presence
to the field and the research focuses on the active and
common species of insects.
IMPORTANCE
OF THE STUDY
The objective of this research topic was to identify the Diversity of
insect pest in Paniquihan, Baras, Catanduanes. And provide detailed
data and initial catalogue of common insect pest on rice field.
Particularly to the Following:
To examine insect abundance during rice growth stages for the
communities especially incoming researchers to present basic
information and perception for further studies.
also It’s varieties & diversity to provide a theoretical basis for the
sustainable control of rice pests for the farmers to provide awareness
and helps in Integrated Pest Management.
DESIGN OF
THE STUDY
This research study used a handmade light
traps that place in the middle of the sudy area that
helps catches insect specimens in were it was
identified and classified using identification keys by
(Shepard et al., 1987), articles (Triple et al., 2012),
other available internet resources. also the
researcher uses survey methods to interview and
gather information on which season or rice stages
is insect most abundant.

The research topic shows the collected

samples of insects and present its characteristic
and identification. this characteristic includes
color, structure, size etc.
Source of Data

The Primary source of data of this reserch topic

comes from the collected data and information that has
been taken from the stated location or area from the
research topic. It is conducted on the specific land
location on where the insects can be found or abundant.
SAMPLING
PROCEDURE
This research topic uses an available
light trap procedure to collect samples to
identify the insect by comparing it to the
available internet resources and using
random sampling method.

In each rice field one light trap is set in

the middle of the field, to attract insect to
using the lights wavelenght.
