DEFINITION OF OVERDOSE

• Taking a harmful amount of a drug

• Drug overdose can be can accidental or intentional

• A toxidrome is a symptoms & signs caused by specific medications or


toxins.

Approach in PHC settings
• Scene size-up
- Wear PPE
- Hazard
• ABC stabilization ( o2 can worsen in paraquat poisoning = lungs)
• Disability ( Gcs, check glucose, pupils)
• Place patient in lateral position ( avoid aspiration)
• Decontamination
- Remove clothes
- Irrigate the skin & eyes
Approach in PHC settings
• History ( Identify poison)
- Route ?
- Substance ?
- How much taken?
- How long ago?
• Transport
• Perform re-assessment every 5 min
• Triage according based on patients condition
