Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation

● The Government formulated a National Policy on Child

Labour in 1987 which seeks to adopt a gradual &
sequential approach of rehabilitation of children working
in hazardous occupations.
● In 1988, this led to the National Child Labour Project
(NCLP) initiative. This legal and development initiative
continues, with a current central government funding of
Rs. 6 billion, targeted solely to eliminate child labour in
India.
Rehabilitation

● Several NGOs have been working for the upliftment of

ragpickers.
● Phia Foundation, which is running an urban education
program in Ghaziabad, NCR, and Delhi, has been working with
children in ragpicking communities to provide them with
access to basic schooling, nutrition, and healthcare.
● IPCA, based out of New Delhi, has developed a specific
curriculum for the students, which is taught by the youth of
the ragpicking community to younger children.
