TECHNOLOGY USAGE

IN THE CLASSROOM

Survey Reasoning
Since technology is ever-changing in the
world of education, I conducted this survey to
understand the technology used in the
classroom. I asked various questions to get an
overview of how technology is used in the
school and how comfortable teachers are with
using this technology in the classroom. I was
curious if other teachers used technology
differently than I did. I surveyed teachers of
different grade levels, content subjects, and
years of experience.

Survey Participates

The participants in this survey ranged from

kindergarten to college-level teachers, with the majority of
the participants teaching 4th – 6th grade. Most participants
have 0-5 years of teaching experience, ranging from 0 -
over 20 years. Most teachers teach in the four main subject
areas- math, science, social studies, and language arts.
Only 5 out of 33 participants are related arts teachers.
Survey Findings
The 1st two questions on the survey found that
teachers almost always use technology in their
classroom. Every participant uses technology at
some point in their classroom.
Most teachers have students use technology in
the classroom during a lesson very often. Four
teachers rarely have students use technology, and
nine teachers always have students use technology.
Survey Findings
The next question in the survey was about how
comfortable the teacher is with their technology
capabilities. I chose to use these questions because I
know veteran teachers are often intimidated by
technology. All but five of the teachers are very
comfortable with their technology capabilities.
The next question asks about technology’s
importance. Most teachers (15 out of 33) said
technology was essential, but it was not that important
in the classroom. One teacher said that they did not
think it was important at all. I thought these results
were extraordinary, considering how much technology
we use daily.
Survey Findings
In this question, I
found that the
classroom's top three
most-used apps or
websites were Kahoot,
BrainPOP, and
Flocabulary. I found
this interesting because
I often use the three of
these in my classroom
to review or teach
content. The lease used
in the school was
Achieve 3000.
Survey Findings
This is a list of ways teachers and students use technology in
the classroom. I found that most of the answers were very
similar. This is a sample of the most common examples.
Summary
After conducting this survey, I found that teachers thought technology was influential in the classroom
but not very important. I thought these results were extraordinary, considering how much technology we
use daily. Only 27% said that it was essential in the classroom. I also thought this answer was shocking
because teachers reported that they use technology in the school and often have students use it in a lesson.
Overall, 63% of teachers always use technology in their classrooms.
Other teachers also use some of the programs I use in my classroom daily. I also found it interesting
how students use technology in these teachers’ classrooms, such as programs I have never heard of, like
NoRedInk, Quindew, and eSpark. The most popular program that is used is Kahoot. This excellent review
tool adds a fun game twist to review questions. The least popular program was Achieve 3000, a reading
program. In my district, we are required to have students use Achieve 3000, which they do not like. This
causes them to guess on questions and speed read- causing their reading level not to move or go down.
Knowing this, I was not very shocked that this was the least popular program. The resources and apps that
are available in education are growing. I was delighted with the information I learned from this survey.
