DESCRIBE
“CLINICAL
CHEMISTR
Y” IN 1-2
SENTENCE
S.
CLINIC CHEMIST
comes from a Greek
RY
- is the science that deals
AL
-
word “kline”, meaning with elements, their
BED. compounds and the
chemical structure and
interactions of matter.
CLINICAL
CHEMISTRY
-is a basic science that utilizes the specialty
of chemistry to study human beings in
various stages of health and diseases.
CLINICAL
CHEMISTRY
- It is an applied science when analyses are
performed on body fluids or tissue specimens to
provide important information for the diagnosis or
treament of disease.
01
Introduction
INTRODUCTION
 Clinical Chemistry lab instruments
encompass a wide array of instrumentation
whose main purpose is to qualitatively and
quantitatively analyze and measure
samples.
 In clinical chemistry, laboratory scientists
often test the chemical makeup of a sample
and the quantity of each component within
a sample.
 Clinical results are then correlated to help
physician diagnosed patient’s disease state.
INTRODUCTION

 Since clinical chemistry laboratory is under

analytical chemistry, laboratory
instrumentation includes those used within
spectroscopy, mass spectrometry,
electrochemical analysis, thermal analysis,
separation analysis, microscopy, and the
various hybrid technologies (e.g. GC-MS
and HPLC-MS).
INTRODUCTION

 Examples of analytical instruments include

mass spectrometers, chromatographs (e.g.
GC and HPLC), titrators, spectrometers
(e.g. AAS, X-ray, and fluorescence), particle
size analyzers, rheometers, elemental
analyzers (e.g. salt analyzers, CHN
analyzers), thermal analyzers, and more.
 The wide range of available equipment in a
particular laboratory also allows a wide
range of testing methods and their
respective applications.
OBJECTIVE
02
S
At the end of this activity, the students must
be able to:
01 Conduct an interview with a medical technologist
assigned in clinical chemistry section.
02 List down all the machines and equipment frequently
use in clinical chemistry ( in your assigned
hospital/laboratory).
03 Identify the specific chemistry analyzer used in your
assigned laboratory and memorize the principle
04 Apply analytical principles of each machines/
equipment's in conducting future experiments

PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE

Specific laboratory will be

Hi!
assigned to each group prior to
the interview. You are going to
call (via zoom or messenger or
any other app) your assigned
guest medical technologist to be
interviewed. (Please inform
her/him ahead of his/her vacant
time).
PROCEDURE
Hi!

Introduce yourselves
and get to know your
guest medical
technologist.
PROCEDURE
Hi!
For interview proper you will
formulate your own
questions. At least 10
questions are to be asked to
your guest med tech.
Important points to
considered while having an
interview are the following:
1. Lists of all laboratory
instruments use in clinical
chemistry section. Include
the function of each
equipment
2. Identify the specific name of
chemistry analyzer/s they are
using in the lab and memorize its
principle. Take note also if it is
semi-automated or automated.
3. How testing of analytes are done?

4. How many samples are allowed to be tested in one run?

5. You can ask photos

of the clinical
chemistry section
PROCEDURE
Hi!

After the interview do

not forget to thank your
guest.
PROCEDURE
Hi!

Submit your sample

questionnaires with
answers.
