THE MAGUAD

SIBLINGS: A
CASE REPORT
INVESTIGATORS:
Agustin, Roel
Barlaan, Jerwenna V.
Handang, Al-nadzhar
Juaton, Denrick
Suico, Cynthia
RELEVANT DETAILS:
On December 10, 2021, the happy days of
the passionate, smart, and loving teens,
Crizzle, 18, and Crizzule, 16, came to an
untimely end when they were ruthlessly
murdered inside their own home in
M’lang, North Cotabato, Philippines.
The bloody crime happened in broad
daylight, at 2 in the afternoon which seems
to be bizarre for a stranger killer to strike
because they would commonly do their
killings at night or in the dark.
According to Mr. Maguad, a high school
teacher and the father of the slain siblings,
at 2:58 in the afternoon, he was fixing
some structure in his wife’s school when
suddenly he received a call from someone
who told him to come home quickly as
their house was ransacked.
It was 3:15 when he reached his
home and never even imagined
that he would see a bloodbath in
his house. In the interview, he
reenacted the moment he opened
their gate. He said that a blood-
soaked blanket and knife were
lying near the front door so to his
distress, he soon called for his
son but no one answered. He
turned the knob to open the door
but it was locked so he went to
the back of the house that was
very quiet and as he opened the
back door, he kept on calling for
his son, daughter, and another
teenager named Janice, 16,
whom they adopted in July 2021.
As he walked from the kitchen to the
living room, he saw his children’s
bodies both bathed in their own blood.
His daughter, Crizzle, was full of
bruises and stabbed wounds in the
different parts of her now infested-with-
ants and stiffed body that was lying a
few steps outside her bedroom. While
his son, Crizzule was hogtied and
gagged near the front door of the house.
His body was also full of stabbed
wounds so it was bathing in fresh blood,
not dry compared to Crizzle’s. There
were also broken bottles, a hammer, and
a baseball bat lying near the dead bodies
of his children.
Mr. Maguad also called their
adoptive child, Janice, who came out
from her room with her hair still wet.
He said that the teen looked
horrified but thought it very strange
when Janice said that she did not
hear him calling her as she was
taking a shower
It gets more suspicious when the
grieving mother, Mrs. Maguad, a
school principal, said that on the
morning of December 10th, Janice
called them Mama and Papa for the
first time. Additionally, only she and
Janice know where they placed the
hammer that was used in murdering
her children.
SUSPECTED
SCENES:
• During the investigation, Janice
claimed three men entered the
house and killed Crizzule first,
which contradicts what was
observed at the crime scene.
• nothing else was stolen.
• At 3:00, Janice was able to post a
Facebook status crying out for
help. Crizzle’s boyfriend saw her
post and instantly called Janice’s
phone but he said that Janice did
not say a word and the
background was very quiet. A
few minutes after that, Janice
changed her Facebook name.
HOW THE CASE
BEING SOLVED?
•  After six days of investigation, the
authorities considered the case of the
killing of Maguad siblings Crizzle
Gwynn, 18, and Crizzule Louis, 16, in
M'lang, North Cotabato as closed.
• According to Major Realan Mamon,
chief of the municipal police, the
family's adopted school girl admitted that
she was responsible for the murder of the
two.
• A crime brought about by envy, jealousy
and hatred triggered the brutal killings of
Crizzle Gwenn and Crizville Lousie
Maguad on December 10, in the village
of San Isidro, Barangay Bagontapay.
• The suspect is now in the custody of the
Department of Social Welfare and
Development while the search for the
other suspect continues.
EVIDENCES
 On the morning of December 10th, Janice called them Mama and Papa for the first time.
 The incident that might have triggered her is the incident when she was caught stealing
10,000PHP. The father wanted Janice to leave the house but his daughter begged him to give
Janice a chance. Another thing is when they went on a vacation, they ask Janice to take a
photo of them excluding her.
 The clothes that she was wearing during the crime were taken and thrown near the canal.
Good thing it was inside the plastic bag and when it was being washed away by the water the
plastic bag was hanging somewhere the branches and police got them as evidence.
 A screenshot of a messenger conversation also emerged where she said she wanted to kill
some people, 7 people, and was looking for an accomplice.
HOW SHOULD THE CASE BE
SOLVED?
AGUSTIN, ROEL BARLAAN, JERWENNA V.
As for me, the case should be resolved by taking the life of the suspect,
For me, the cases should solve by means of "Due also known as the "Death Penalty". Notice why there are a lot of

I am still in favor of it because there is no greater pain if we allow them
to live as they wanted to, while those victims who really want to live as

HOW SHOULD THE CASE BE
RESOLVED?
The news about the killing of the Maguad siblings all over the media and internet was
SUICO, CYNTHIA horrible and terrifying, knowing that children nowadays, ages 9–16 years old, are not
innocent anymore and are prone to committing crimes or murders. The juvenile delinquencies
here in the Philippines are increasing, and I believe that there could be possible causes that
can influence children to commit crimes, such as abuse and trauma, lack of access to proper
education, and extensive access to technology. Having said these causes, I think that Janice
had these triggers that pushed her to kill the Maguad siblings. Because of the deprivation of
love and care that she experienced when she wasn't adopted yet, this led her to commit such a
horrible act. In addition, I agree that Janice was held at the DSWD facility to further give her
support in her psychological and psychosocial therapy because she cannot be put into prison
because at that time, she's still under 16 years old, but as the years pass by and she'll turn
legal age, I think it could be fair enough to send her to jail for the rest of her life, or what they
call ”life imprisonment." She has taken away two lives, and she must be imprisoned for the
rest of her life as her punishment and as a lesson to herself. Hence, I really believe that we
should never, ever take someone's life. No matter how hard life is or how dark your mind
might get, killing someone is not the solution if you don't want to suffer in jail for the rest of
your life.
