INTRODUCTION

→ Hawkeye is a computer system used in Cricket, tennis, snookers and other sports to Visually track the Path of the
ball and display a record of its most significantantly likely path as a moving image.

→ Hawk eye is the most innovative technology Provider in sports broadcasting and is a development thar will
reinforce the groups presence and influence .

→ Hawk eye technology was developed by Engineers at Roke Manor Research Limited of UK in 2001

→ A Patent was submitted by Dr.Parul Hawkins and David Sherry.

Principle of Hawk-Eye

A hawk eye system is

based on the principle of
“Triangulation”
Triangulation is the process of
Determining the location of a point by
measuring angles to it from known
Points at either end of a fixed baseline.
Hawk Eye in Cricket

It is based on the principle of

triangulation Using the visual
images and timing data provided
by high Speed vedio Cameras
location at different locations
and angles around the area of
play..
Applications Of Hawk -Eye

1.LBW Decisions

2.Wagon Wheel

3.Pitch Maps

4.De-Spin
LBW Decisions

One Very common use of hawk eye is LBW

Decisions , where viewer can see the virtual
Path of the ball after it’s being pitched and in
conclusion get an idea of whether the
Batsman should actually have been
adjudged LBW or not..

Wagon Wheel

The wagon wheel gives you an idea of the

Different areas where the batsman has been
Targeting to score singles, doubles boundaries and
Sixes…
Despite

It is used to check the angle of turn or

deviation of a ball after it has pitched

Pitch Maps

This consists of a virtual map of the

Various areas of the pitch where the
bowler has bowled a delivery. It shows
you how consistent a bowler is,in terms
of line and length
ADVANTAGES

1.This technology being used in many sports like cricket ,badminton,

and snookers

2.It is also a great tool which can be used by players,Statisticians and

tactician coaches to analyze previous games and come up with
Strategies for subsequent ones.

3.It reduces the human effort.

DISADVANTAGES

2.It is not 100% accurate.

3.It challenges the umpire decision.

CONCLUSION

* This is the most advanced technology that being used in sports .

* It is also a great tool which can be used by players ,Statisticians, tactician

and coaches to analyze previous games and come up with
strategies for subsequent ones..
