INTRODUCTION
 Massage is the systematic, mechanical
stimulation of the soft tissue of the body by
means of rhythmically applied pressure and
stretching for therapeutic purposes.
PURPOSE OF MASSAGE THERAPY
 To prevent injuries
 To relieve swelling
 To drain any fatigue
 To promote flexibility
 Prepare the athlete for peak performance

Swedish Massage Therapy
 Swedish massage is the most common type
of massage therapy its main purpose is to
place your body into a wonderful state of
relaxation. It can also be used for pain
management and injury recovery.
TECHNIQUES USED IN SWEDISH
MASSAGE
 Effleurage : smooth,gliding strokes to relax soft tissue.
 Petrissage : squeezing,rolling,or kneading.
 Friction : deep, circular movements to increase blood flow
and down scar tissue.
 Tapotement : tapping with cupped hands,fingers,or the hand.

Deep Tissue Massage Theray
 Deep Tissue Massage - This one is ideal for
chronic pain, injuries, and repetitive strain
such as carpal tunnel syndrome. A deep
tissue massage is not meant to be a relaxing
massage, rather it is much more intense and
therefore can be much more effective in
dealing with various issues.

gliding stroke.

 Pertrissage: This type of massage stroke is often


described as one in which the practitioner is
kneading, rolling, wringing, and lifting the soft
tissue being worked on.
