ON
BRAIN CHIPS TECHNOLOGY
Presented by
TALAGAMA ANUSHA
IT DEPARTMENT

INTRODUCTION
 Brain chip technology is a technology which involves communication based on
neural activity generated by the brain.
 Brain chips can enhance human memory, helps paralyzed patients and are
intended for military purposes.
 Brain chips contains 100 hair thin electrodes.
 It senses electromagnetic signals of neutrons.
 It provides connection between the human and computer.
EVOLUTION OF BRAIN CHIP TECHNOLOGY

 In 1950,JOSE DELGADO implanted electrodes in animal brains.

 In 2001,JOHN DONOGHUE and his team at brown university invented BRAIN
GATE DEVICE .
 In 2004, JONATHAN WOLPAW and his team at New York invented a EEG
cap.
 In 2011,IBM invented a wireless Brain Chip Interface.
 In 2016,ELON MUSKS Neural link company developed a Neural link Chip.

BRAINGATE TECHNOLOGY

 It is implemented in brain.
 The signals are exchanged by the neurons even though they are not sent to
the arms , limbs and hands.
 This signals are detected and sent to the computer and the computer is
controlled by the person.
 CHIP :

A four milli meter square silicon chip studded with 100 hair thin, micro
electrodes are embedded in brain's primary motor cortex.

 CONNECTOR:

The signals from the brain are transmitted through the pedestal plug
attached to the skull.

 CONVERTER:

The signal travels to an amplifier where it is converted to optical data and

bounced by fibre-optic cable to a computer.

 COMPUTER:

The computer is used to process the signals and accomplish the

communication.
CHALLENGES FACED BY THE SCIENTISTS

 Interface between biology and technology.

 Giving a paralyzed person complete control over robotic arms.
 Decreasing the size of chip.
APPLICATIONS

 Navigate internet.
 Play computer games.
 Turn lights ON and OFF.
 Control television.
 Control robotic arms.
 Biomedical instrumentation.
 Micro electronics, signal processing.
 Artificial neural networks and robotics which has
overwhelming development.
BENEFITS

 It will increase dynamic ranging of sense.

 It will give light to blind and give control to paralyzed
limbs and arms.
 No genetic modifications in the next generation.
DISADVANTAGES

 Full fledged research is still going on.

 Electrodes outside of the skull can detect very few
electric signals from the brain.
 Electrodes placed inside the skull create scar tissue in the
brain.
 Safety.
 Can create inequalities.
CONCLUSION

 Brain chips helps the patients who are unable to perform even simple
actions without the help of others.
 These people are able to do things such as checking e-mails, turn the
TV ,and control a prosthetic arm with just their thoughts.
 In future , this technology brings a new era in the world of
technology.
 Not only for patients , but also common people this technology is
very useful like they can learn things faster and perform activities
quickly.
 It is even useful to store and retrieve our memory.
