What is NREGA ?
It is an Indian job guarantee scheme NREGA is an Act can be amended only by parliament It was enacted by legislation on August 25,2005 and was started on February 02,2006 On 2nd October ,2009 it was renamed as: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)

AIM OF NREGA
To enhance livelihood security in rural areas by Providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage Employment in a financial year to every household Whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled Manual work .

Process of NREGA
Adult members of rural households submit their name, age and address with photo to the Gram Panchayat Panchayat register households after verification and issues a job card to the applicants Job card contains the details of the adult member enrolled and his/her photo .

Employment will be provided within a radius of 5 km; if it is above 5 km, transport allowance and 10% extra living allowance will be paid. If employment under the scheme is not provided within fifteen days of receipt of the application, daily unemployment allowance will be paid to the applicant.

Salient features of this Act


Any adult of rural household willing to do unskilled annual work under the scheme is eligible under this ACT Issuance of JOB CARD (bearing photograph) Provision of Unemployment Allowance Equal wages for men and women At least one-third work should be allotted to women 10% extra wage provision if employment is provided outside 5 km radius of their dwelling place Basic minimum requirements at the place of employment
