What is a Tsunami
A tsunami is a series of huge
ocean waves that are caused by
earthquakes, volcanic eruptions,
underwater landslides or
asteroids. Unlike the ordinary
ocean waves which are created
by tides or winds and developed
by the gravitational pull of the
sun or and the moon, the
tsunami is created by the
displacement of water by a
huge event. In different cases,
tsunami waves do not resemble
ordinary undersea currents or
waves because their
wavelengths are far longer as
compared to those of common
waves.
Formation
Severally, tsunamis are formed as
a result of a force that creates
waves that radiate outward in all
directions away from the source,
sometimes crossing the entire
ocean basins.
Characteristics
Tsunamis are known to
travel to about 20-30 miles
per hour with waves
ranging from 10 to 100 feet
high.
