RESISTORS

WHAT IS A RESISTOR?
Resistors is a device which is used to offer opposition
to the flow of current in an electrical circuit.
TYPES OF RESISTERS
Wire Wound Resistor
Carbon Resistor
WIRE WOUND REGISTER
A wire wound resistor is made up of wires. Material
used for making wire wound resistor is nichrome
which is used as an alloy on nickel and chromium.
CARBON RESISTOR
A carbon resistor is made by mixing the carbon and
the porcelain in a desired proportion. Both carbon and
porcelain in finely powder and mix in a pan by adding
chemicals. A paste is made out of this paste. Then two
wires are taken out from both the ends of each piece.
CONNECTION OF RESISTORS
Series Connection
Parallel Connection
SERIES CONNECTION
In series connection, current remains constant but
voltage adds up.
Req = R1 + R2 +…+ Rn
PARALLEL CONNECTION
In parallel connection, voltage remains constant but
current adds up.

RESISTOR COLOUR CODE
Resistor Value = (1st Digit ×10 + 2nd Digit) × Multiplier Ω ± Tolerance

RESISTANCE
Resistance is the opposition offered to the flow of
current in an electrical circuit. It is defined as the ratio
of potential difference to the electrical current flowing
in the circuit.

RESISTANCE: UNIT & SYMBOL

The ohm (Ω) is the SI derived unit of electrical

resistance, named after German physicist Georg Ohm.
An ohm is equivalent to a volt per ampere.
