CARE

FOR
NATURE
What is Nature?

Nature, in the broadest sense, is the physical world or

universe. "Nature" can refer to the phenomena of the
physical world, and also to life in general. The study of
nature is a large, if not the only, part of science.
(Wikipedia)
5 Threats to 1. Changes in land and sea use
Our Environment 2. Direct exploitation of natural
resources
3. Climate change
4. Pollution
5. Invasive species
Possible Dangers to the Environment

 Bycatch
 Deforestation and Forest Degradation
 Effects of Climate Change
 Illegal Fishing
 Illegal Wildlife Trade
 Infrastructure
 Oil and Gas Development
 Overfishing
Environmental Factors that Affect Human Health

 Chemical pollution - different chemicals can impact human health in different ways, and often,
exposure to dangerous or foreign substances creates health vulnerabilities
 Air pollution - effects on humans are a significant public health concern, not only because of their
role in climate change, but also because exposure to air pollution can increase morbidity and
mortality that are suspended in the air and have harmful or poisonous effects
 Climate change - disrupts the natural world in a number of ways that can impede health and
increase vulnerability to disease; these include increases in the planet’s temperature and more
frequent heavy rains and runoff in which various impacts may result in greater vulnerability to
nervous and respiratory diseases, diarrhea, and more
Environmental Factors that Affect Human Health

 Disease-causing microbes - also known as microorganisms — present another area of public health concern.
Trillions of microbes exist within the human body, and they also live in water, soil, and air
 Lack of access to health care - factors that contribute to lack of access to health care are economic instability,
unreliable transportation to clinical facilities, and simple lack of education about the importance of preventive
care
 Poor infrastructure - overcoming poor infrastructure requires the right allocation of resources from local,
state, and federal governments, as well as a qualified workforce to keep infrastructure properly maintained
 Poor water quality - number of factors can contribute to poor water quality, including industrial waste and
pollution, lack of access to proper water treatment and sanitation services, and outdated plumbing
infrastructure
10 Simple Things You Can Do to Help Protect the Earth
1. Reduce, reuse, and recycle - cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three "R's" to conserve natural
resources and landfill space
2. Volunteer - for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in protecting your watershed, too
3. Educate - when you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our
natural resources
4. Conserve water - the less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end up in the ocean
5. Choose sustainable - learn how to make smart seafood choices
6. Shop wisely - buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag
7. Use long-lasting light bulbs - energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also flip the light
switch off when you leave the room
8. Plant a tree - trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air, and help combat climate change
9. Don't send chemicals into our waterways - choose non-toxic chemicals in the home and office
10. Bike more -Drive less

The food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we use

resources are frequently referred to as the world's "natural

Benfits of Protecting
Nature

 It provides habitat for native plants and

wildlife.
 It supports natural processes (soil
regeneration, flood prevention, waste
decomposition, crop pollination, seed
dispersal), which we depend on for our
survival.
 Nature refers to the interaction between the physical world
R and the life within it like animals, birds, trees, plants, and
humans. It also includes non-living things like landscapes,
E
water, and others. The surroundings we live in, the food we

M eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe in are all part
of nature.
E
 We are so blessed to see nature right before our own eyes.
M Nature that speaks of God's goodness and great love for us.
Nature that teaches us different forms of character and well-
B being. Right in the beginning, we are appointed as stewards

E of this great masterpiece. The preservity of nature depends

on our care. Oh how wonderful it is if our descendants can

R also experience these things.
