 BACKGROUND OF SHANE

o Shane is a western novel by Jack Schaefer that was written in 1946

o First published in the New Windmill Series 1957
o The novel Shane is about a mysterious man,that entered a small farm in Wyoming
named Shane.He then came upon a house which belonged to the Starrett
family.The Starrett family loved Shane so much that they ask him to stay.Joe and
Shane worked so well together, like a perfect team.Even when there was trouble
Shane was like a strong solider through it all and helped the Starrett’s fight for
their farm.Even though Shane left he will allways be remember as a legend in the
town of Wyoming
 SUMMARY OF CHAPTER
ONE
 In the summer of,’89.Shane rode into a town called Wyoming, as he came towards the home
of the Starrett’s ,young Bob watches him as he came closer and close with a child’s
fascination. What impressed him was his clothes,as they have never seen anyone from around
town dressed like that.When Shane arrived upon the Starrett’s home he asked for some water
for both him and his horse .Joe Starrett,told him to take whatever he needs.Joe then talked
Shane into staying overnight.They questioned Shane throughout dinner ,but he was very
secretive. Then they started talking about the plan’s for Joe’s farm.After dinner Marian and
Joe talked how mysterious a man shane is.
DESCRIPTION OF SHANE

Shane is strong,supportive,bave and

secretive. He is typically quiet and
always silent about his past.Shane is loyal
to the very end,never compromising any
of the Starretts or placing them in
danger.He feels both tenderness and
responsibility for the Starretts.Shane is an
heroic man.He dresses different from all
the other men,he wore dark trousersthat
was tucked into hid tall boots and held at
the waist by

a wide belt,with soft black leather design.A coat with the same dark material as the
trousers,his shirt was finespun linen,rich in brow colour. His handkerchief knotted loosely
around his throat which was black silk.His hat was plain black and soft in texture.He was not
much above medium height ,almost slight in build and his face is nicely shaven.

A person that dresses well you have to confess
He fights for the right with all his might
All his foes take their flight
He might be slight in build but as strong as his will

Shane is strong,supportive and seemlessly secretive

Supportive he will always be and he will never leave by your side
Secretive he will be but his love will always be shown
