Mamluk Feat
The Mamluk or Slave Dynasty made some
really impressive structures.
An important monument of the is the
remarkable Qutub Minar in Delhi.
Other monuments include the first Islamic
tomb in India at Sultan Garhi, Delhi.
Bahmani Builders
 The
Bahmani rulers got many
tombs and mosques built, with
a persian influence.
Some of them can be seen
Bihar and Gulbarga, such as
Bidar fort, Madrasa Mahmud
Gawan etc.
Maratha and Rajput
Power
 The best forts in India were
built by the Rajputs and
Marathas.
The architecture was known
for excellent military defence.

Mughal
 The architectural style of Mughal forts was an amalgamation
of indigenous Hindu and Indo-Islamic styles.
 Fatehpur Sikhri represented Akbar’s vision of a syncretic
culture.
 This site helps us reconstruct scenes of Mughal court life
and understand hierarchy withing the nobles.
Rajput

 The Rajputs built some of India ‘s most


extradinary hill forts and palaces, which
showed prominent Indo-Islamic influences in
the architecture.
Maratha and Bundelkhand

 In western and central India, Shivaji, famous for his


guerrilla warfare against the Mughals, and the
Bundelkhand rajas built forts that were marked by
their perfect situation for prolonged sieges.
Bengal
 In Bengal, we find the unique mud fort of Gaur – one
of the few surving mud forts in Indi.
 The complex has wonderful combination of Hindu
and Islamic artechtural styles, as well as the Bengali
terracotta ornamentation.
Medieval Splendours
 Adhai Din Ka Jhonpada – Built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in
Ajmer, this is the one of the oldest mosques in India.
 Jaisalmer Story – Lord Krishna, in the Mahabharata,
said that any structure built here would be almost
invincible to the enemies. And indeed from a distance it
appears as sheer golden cliff!
