The document discusses sensor devices and how they relate to human senses. It provides examples of common sensor devices like light dependent resistors and describes how they work. The document also outlines activities for students, including defining sensors, describing how they work in circuits, and practicing wiring installations. Safety precautions are emphasized. The goal is for students to understand the important role of sensor devices in modern life and what they have learned from the lesson.

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1.Define what sensor is
2.Describe how sensor device works in a simple circuit 3.Perform wiring installation at least one sensor device Activity I- Test Prior Knowledge
Directions: Divide the class into 4 groups. You are given 8
minutes to finish the activity. The scores you obtained from this activity will be added to your score in the second activity. 1.How many sensors or senses do humans have? List them down. (5 pts) 2.Describe how any two of the sensors you listed work. (2 pts) 3.Give examples of sensor devices that are alike to at least three human senses (3 pts) Activity I- Test Prior Knowledge
1.How many sensors or senses do humans have? List them.
Five main sensors: eyes, ears, nose, skin, tongue. (Other sensors include detecting temperature, detecting body position, balance sensors, and blood acidity sensors.)
2. Describe how any two of the sensors you listed work.
Eyes take in light from the surroundings and relay that to nerve cells that send images to the brain. Ears take in sound waves from the air and vibrate, sending vibrations through the inner ear to hair cells that send signals to the brain. Particles are inhaled into the nose and nerve cells contact the particles and send signals to the brain. Sensors all over the skin are activated and send signals to the brain through the nervous system. Taste buds on the tongue are made of small cells that have little hairs that are activated by food particles; these hairs send signals through the nerves to the brain. Activity I- Test Prior Knowledge
3. Give examples of sensor devices that
are alike to at least three human senses. A robot’s light and ultrasonic sensors are like eyes . Sound sensors are like ears. Touch sensors are like skin. What is a sensor? sensor is a device that detects changes in physical, electrical, or chemical properties and produces an electrical output in response to that change. .
The input can be in any form like heat, light, pressure,
moisture, motion, temperature and other environmental factors
It is a device that converts signals from one
energy domain to electrical domain Transmitter
The transmitter is used to transfer signals from
remote locations to the controller. The output signal is strong The standard current signal can be used for long distance transmission, and the standard voltage signal can be used for short distance transmission Light Dependent Resistor • LDR is common to light sensor • It is a device, whose resistance varies according to intensity of light it is subjected to. Light Dependent Resistor
• When the LDR is in darkness, then it can be used to
turn ON a light or to turn OFF a light when it is in the light. • It can detect different types of light like visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared light etc. Applications of LDR
This circuit can be utilized in an automatic
streetlight. We can use it in dark areas to work as the emergency lights. The circuit is great for the areas facing load shedding problems at night. The mine workers can also use it. How to wire a sensor device?
1. From the photocell, the red wire will be connected to
the load which is one of the terminal of the bulb. 2. The black wire which is the hot wire will be connected to live side of the source, the circuit breaker. 3. The white wire, which is the neutral wire will be connected to one of the terminal of the bulb going the neutral side the source. 4. Review the connections 5. Conduct testing before energizing the circuit 6. Cover the photocell with black cloth then observe what happens to the circuit. Note: ALWAYS remember, SAFETY FIRST!! Abstraction 1. What do you think is the important role of sensor devices to daily life? • Modern life has indeed been revolutionized by these tiny devices that are becoming more sophisticated through innovation. Sensors has made our daily activities easier and more convenient. At work, it helps us enhanced productivity and performance. It provides additional security and relief in everyday life, particularly for chronically sick people.
2. What have you learned from today’s lesson?
ACTIVITY II- It’s Magic Time!!! Directions: Divide the class into 4 groups. Draw lot will be given to exercise fairness among the groups. The task will be performed by each group and one member will present their output. (10 min) 1: Install wiring connection of clapper switch. 2: Draw the schematic diagram of the light sensor with switch 3: Install wiring connection of light sensor without switch 4: Install wiring connection of light sensor with switch
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND GUIDELINES:
1. Don’t clown around or engage in horseplay.
2. Report all injuries at once. 3. Keep the floors around your work area clean. 4. Use appropriate tools correctly. 5.
