LODGING HISTORY
The lodging industry has evolved enormously over the years. In the 15th century, many
European cities became centres of commerce and culture. With the development of
stagecoach routes connecting major cities, the first hotel room was built.

As the lodging industry responded to changes in destination patterns, inns were set up
along stagecoach routes. This was followed by the location of lodging establishment
convenient to the major travel modes of railroads, automobiles and airplanes. Hence we
can that the boom of lodging industry was mainly because of its positive response to
changes in destination patterns.
LODGING HISTORY
By the beginning of the 19th century, lodging establishments which were larger and more
commercial than inns emerged. Among the early hotels were the City Hotel in Broadway,
New York City in 1794, the six storey 200 room City Hotel in Baltimore, built in 1826
and the Tremont House in Boston, built in 1829.

Luxury Hotel were develop later as the people willing to spend money on quality
products and services. Among grand hotels at that time were Grand Hotel in Rome, Paris
Ritz, Savoy of London and Waldorft-Astoria Hotel. These included Hilton, Sheraton and
J.W Marriot.
