HUMANITIES
 As a discipline, humanities is a broad
field.
It includes Fine Arts: Painting,
Sculpture, Architecture.
Performing Arts: Music, Dance, Drama
and Opera
Literary Arts: Prose and Poetry
HUMANITIES
 It encompasses all studies which aim to
make students “human”.
Human derived from the latin word
“humanus” meaning, human, cultured
and refined
It embraces social sciences and the
philosophy.
ART
 Human ingenuity in adapting natural
things to man’s use.
It came from the word “ars” which mean
skill.
PURPOSE OF THE ARTIST IN
ENGAGING IN ART ACTIVITIES

 Some do it to express their emotions


and thoughts, real or imaginary.
To produce things of beauty e.g Great
Pyramid, Eiffel Tower, etc.

They do it to self- actualize e.g. poet writes


poems to satisfy his passion for poetry or a
sculptor creates icons to satisfy his craving for
images.
They do it to immortalize themselves as do
painters who do self-portrait or to a sculptor
who immortalize other people in the
monuments of heroes, and writers who make
biographies.

ENGAGING IN ART ACTIVITIES

 Several artist engage in art in order to


persuade e.g. are the propaganda writers,
copywriters, and editorial cartoonist
But most artist intend to entertain
people.
