• CYBER SCAM involves using online services and software with access to the
internet to defraud or take advantage of victims. The term "internet fraud"
generally covers cybercrime activity that takes place over the internet or on email,

including crimes like identity theft, phishing, and other hacking activities designed
to scam people out of money.

: • Cyber crime, as the name suggests, is a type of crime that is committed in the cyber
world.

• Our Indian law has not defined the term cyber crime as such; however, an act has
been introduced in order to tackle with these types of crimes, which we know as
the Information Technology Act 2000 or the IT Act 2000.

Types OF CYBER SCAM:
1. PHISING: The use of email and online messaging
services to dupe victims into sharing personal data,
login credentials, and financial details.
2. DATA BREACH: Stealing confidential, protected, or
sensitive data from a secure location and moving it into
an untrusted environment. This includes data being
stolen from users and organizations.
3. SCAM: It refers to any business scheme that is
fraudulant. This is done for monetary gains and are
advertised over the internet
4. SPYWARE: It’s a software that steals data from
victims PC without his knowledge. This include
personal information, business info or device details.
5. IDENTITY THEFT: Steals data from victim identity
for gains and also compromises their privacy’
PREVENTIVE MEASURE :

1. Do not chat with strangers over net. Fraudsters and scammers prowl on the internet
looking for victims.

2. Never send money or give credit card details, online account details or copies of
personal documents to anyone you don’t know or trust and never by email.

3. Avoid any arrangement with a stranger who asks for up-front payment via money
order, wire transfer, international funds transfer, pre-loaded card or electronic currency. It
is rare to recover money sent this way.

4. Do not agree to transfer money for any unknown person. Money laundering is a
criminal offence.
PREVENTIVE MEASURE::
5. Verify the identity of the contact by calling the relevant organization directly – find
them through an independent source such as a phone book or online search. Do not use the
contact details provided in the message sent to you.

6. Check credentials of foreign entities through the concerned Embassies and High
Commissions, Counselates etc.

7. Do an internet search using the names or exact wording of the letter/email to check for
any references to a scam – many scams can be identified this way.

8. If you think it’s a scam, don't respond — scammers will use a personal touch to play on
your emotions to get what they want.
