GENERAL
SPECIFICATION
Drawing are used to express the constructional work or size of the material used in it, but
drawings lack to express the material type, the ratio of different materials used, required
strength and required color, etc. However, specifications are used for this purpose to
fulfill the remaining requirements.
SPECIAL
SPECIFICATION
Special Specification means a Specification containing requirements specific to the Work that
are not included in any Standard Specification or which are intended to amend, supplement or
replace part or all of a Standard Specification, as the same may be amended, supplemented
or replaced from time to time by the Owner
OPEN
SPECIFICATION
Open Specification as there is no restriction among traders which have specific trademark, any
traders can apply material satisfying open specifications, hence it creates a healthy competition
among manufacturers and suppliers. Progress of work does not suffer due to short supply of
materials. Similar kind of material can be procured at competitive rate. Reduction of transportation
chargers and delivery time. Quality of material standardized which results in private parties select
materials depending on its quality.
RESTRICTED
SPECIFICATION
Minimum 2 brand names listed followed by the phrase “or approved equal The phrase “or equal”
is interpreted to mean approved as equal by the Design Professional.
Contractor’s request for another brand to be added to the list, must be done at the bidding stage.
If the Design Professional is in agreement, an addendum will be issued.
