The story of Hills
Introduction:
In this story, the writer spent his summer vacation in Basantgarh
about which he had heard a lot. After being visited there he
describes the beauty of that place by various means from green
maize fields to the sweet sounds of Sohadis (folk songs)and
cool breeze passing out of Deodar and Partal trees. Where he
meets a young girl in the middle of the forest and narrates her a
story. Interestingly, it is found that The narrated story came out
as the story of young girl itself.

SUMMARY:
The writer says that he had heard much about Basantgarh and its
beauty. He decided to spend his summer vacation there. He found as
if he had reached a place that was cold and as if he had been taken
out of boiling oil and dropped in a bucket of cold water. The green
maize fields with farmers working in them and the sounds of a folk
song made everything, was beautiful. He finally found a place from
where he could catch the beauty around to give a desired shape on a
piece of paper. He saw a young girl sitting close to him. She said
that she had been watching him for many days and the villagers had
told her many bad word stories about him. Therefore she hid behind
the tree so that she could strike him. However he looked to be
different .

The writer said that he was writing a story. she asked him to tell
her story.
The story was then narrated to her. With the opening remarks he
told her that ten years has gone by, when Santoo Gaddi’s wife
died. Santoo could get a wife when he gave a girl from his family
into the family of his to be in-laws. Santoo had a niece, Patoo by
name of ten years old. Santoo had kept a woman but had left the
house. To keep the name of the family going, he wanted to have
a son. So he decided that Patoo should get married as earlier as
possible.

So he decided that Patoo should get married as earlier as possible.
Mast Ram the village nambardar of forty years old suffering form
asthma needed a wife. Santoo thought that that if Mast ram died,
Patoo might get another husband. Santoo got a wife and Patoo had
her husband of her desire to live happily .The writer said that the
story has been completed up to this stage only.
Patoo looked up and was in tears. She said “ O man! Are you a
Jotishi? The girl said that he had narrated her story. She run away
while uttering “ This is my story, O man ! This is my story.” Each
hill was echoing same sound .
