Declaration of topic:
Weak: Nursing as a demanding profession.
Strong: Nursing requires not only substantial education, but also perfect self-
discipline and enhanced professional ethics.
Falling between 2 stools:
Weak: Sometimes students enjoy their studies, but sometimes they don’t.
Strong: There is a direct relationship between students’ attitudes towards study
and their learning outcomes.
Making general statement:
Weak: I am going to write about the movie Titanic.
Strong: The 1997 movie Titanic was a huge success owing to the talents of the leading
actors, the film director and the original genre of epic romantic disaster movie.
GOOD TITLE
• To find a catchy title for your paper or essay,
start by thinking of 1 or 2 keywords or phrases
to include in the title that applies to the topic
of your essay and will hook your reader in.
• You can also try looking for a key quote or
phrase and using part of it in your title
CRITERIA
• Eye-catching – well, this is obvious. Think about it;
do you prefer reading content or academic papers
with boring titles
• Believable – most students and freelance writers
make mistakes by trying to make their titles catchy in
such a way they stray away from the truth.
• Easy to read – Stay away from strange phrases,
complicated structures, even some uncommon fonts
when writing your title

• Ideally: it should encourage the reader to be
interested enough to want to see more
• It should not lead to any of the following
reactions
– “not again!”
– “I don’t believe this”
– “How boring”
– “Huh?”
