ELEMENTS OF DRAMA

1. Theme- refers to the message


that the writer wants to convey to
the audience.
2. Dialogue- the conversation
between or among the actors,
resulting in the speeding up
of the action and the
unfolding of the plot.
3. Music-another
important element that
enhances the actor’s
performance.
4. Spectacle- refers to
the visual and
technical aspects of the
play.
Characterization
through speech and
action
1. Round- characters who are
transformed as the play
progresses.

2. Flat-remains the same with no


absorbable change in mindset or
behaviour.
3. Realistic- real-life depictions of
individualized characters.

4.Non-realistic- unbelievable
characters with no remarkable
distinct trait.
5. Symbolic- character representing
a concept or abstract idea.

6. Stereotyped- also referred to as


stock characters who conform to a
standard pattern of behaviour.
Plotting the drama
-Drama follows a
structure that reflects its
organization and format.
Astonishment- the elemnt of
surprise that triggers the plot

Reversal- involves an ironic


reversal of fortune and its
accompanying discovery
Suffering- involves a difficult situation
resulting from character’s change of
fortune or realization.

Recognition-refers to the character’s


realization as a result of the shift in
thinking.
