SETTING SEWING PARAMETER IN
OVERLOCK MACHINE
 SEWING PARAMETER IN OVERLOCK MACHINE ARE
 Adjusting SPI
 Adjusting differential feed for gathers
 Adjusting differential feed for stretching
 Adjusting bight
ADJUSTING SPI IN OVERLOCK
MACHINE
WHAT IS SPI ?

 SPI stands for Stitch per Inch. This means the number of stitches formed in the one-
inch length of the seam.
 In the metric system, this term is called Stitch per Centimeter (SPC).
 Standard SPI is used to sew a garment as the quality of the seam and strength of the
seam depends on the number of stitches used per inch of seam.
SPI SETTING

 SPI setting:
 In the traditional lock stitch machine, overlock sewing machines SPI set up is done
using the SPI regulator. In the latest machine with a computerized control panel, SPI
set-up /selection is easily done by selecting a suitable SPI number from the display
screen.
ADJUSTING SPI IN OVERLOCK
MACHINE class 504
 The overlock uses two needles, the stitch width can be
adjusted by removing one of the needles.
 This can be done only when a three–thread stitch is
used.
 The stitch length of an overlock machine may vary
from 0 to 5 mm (0–0.2 inch).
 The stitch can be adjusted by turning a dial, moving a
lever, or loosening a screw.
DIFFERENTIAL FEED IN OVERLOCK
MACHINE
DIFFERENTIAL FEED

 Differential feed is literally that it changes the speed

of the feed dogs ,so that they feed differently.
 Like a sewing machine, the overlocker also uses a
feed dog system to move fabric through the
machine. However, unlike a sewing machine, the
overlocker has TWO sets of feed dogs.
 Differentialfeed is a feature found on most
overlockers and flatlock machine , but it takes some
understanding to fully comprehend the benefits for
your sewing.
 The back feed dog stay constant ,and the front ones
change speed according to how u set the differential
feed.
ADJUSTING DIFFERENTIAL FEED FOR
GATHERS

 There are different ways to adjust differential feed which is given below
 For gathers differential feed setting is at 2
 Another option for the overlocker is to use a gathering foot. The shape of this foot
assists in holding the fabric to be gathered while also allowing for it to be sewn to a
flat fabric.
  Adjust Needle Tension and Stitch Length Settings : if you tighten the needle
tensions and adjust the stitch length to a longer setting, you can increase the amount
that your fabric is gathering.
