Mission and vision
• Mission: To promote and improve proper
waste segregation practice in University of
Gondar Hospital through provision of
adequate waste receptacles and appropriate
training
• Vision: To create a clean Hospital Compound

Current situation
• In many developing countries including
Ethiopia , healthcare waste segregation has
not got sufficient attention.
• It is essential that all medical waste materials
are segregated at the point of generation,
appropriately treated and disposed of
safely(WHO,2011)

 Waste segregation practice in Gondar
university hospital is poor; as shown in a
research done on healthcare waste
segregation practice in Gondar university
hospital in
 Mixed medical wastes containing sharps and
fluids could present a risk of injury and
infection to scavengers or children player

• The main problem of waste management in
Ethiopia include lack of appropriate
segregation of wastes, insufficient training of
healthcare workers, inadequate personal
protective equipment
