Inclusion Criteria
• Definition: Those criteria that a study must demonstrate in order to be retained for review.

• At the title and abstract stage, the focus is on the presence of keywords from each group.

• To be retained, articles MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE TERM from EACH GROUP in their TITLE
AND/OR ABSTRACT.

• Keywords must be used in a manner consistent with inclusion criteria. As an example, ‘authors read and
reviewed related literature’ would not be considered an instance of ‘read,’ which refers to reading achievement.

• DO NOT CONSIDER other inclusion criteria at this stage.

• The list of keywords has now been finalized.

Review & Advice
• To review, to be retained, articles MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE TERM from EACH
GROUP in their TITLE AND/OR ABSTRACT.
• Please be sure that terms are used in a manner consistent with the inclusion criteria. For
example, ‘leading’ should not be considered an instance of the keyword ‘lead,’ which refers to the
heavy metal.
• Do NOT CONSIDER other inclusion criteria at this stage.
• I have highlighted a large number of terms in Covidence; however, it is possible that a key term
may not be highlighted. Therefore, it is essential to carefully scan the titles and abstracts for
keywords.
• I have included all of the search criteria and keywords in Covidence for your reference. Please
keep them in view while screening.
• Err on the side of caution. If you are not sure whether to retain an article, reach out to me.
• Do NOT SELECT MAYBE. Each article must be retained (YES) or rejected (No).
Homework for the Week of 7 February
• Please screen at least 60 articles this week if you’ve
registered for 2 credit hours.
• Please screen at least 96 articles this week if you’ve
