• LEVEL&GRADE OF STUDENTS: 6th Grade-Elemantary Level
• TOPIC: Demonstrative pronouns & Singular and Plural Form
• LEARNING OBJECTİVES:
• Students will be able to name the for demonstrative pronouns and state
their purpose.
• Students will be able to use demonstrative pronouns with correct
pronoun/antecedent and pronoun/verb agreement (singular and plural).
• Students will be able to distinguish between demonstrative pronouns and
demonstrative adjectives.
LESSON OBJECTIVES:

• In this lesson, students practice using the demonstrative pronouns (this /


that / these / those) to point out specific things. They play a fun board
game, read a story and complete a demonstrative pronouns worksheet.
GRAMMAR FOCUS 

• Demonstrative pronouns are words that point to specific things. For


example, “This is a pen”.These pronouns show the relationship between
the person speaking and the object:
• this / these: object or objects near the speaker (often within touching
distance)
• that / those: object or objects futher away from the speaker (often out of
touching distance)
• that over there / those over there: object or objects far away from the
speaker
GRAMMER FOCUS:
• Demonstrative pronouns differ in singular and plural forms:
•What is this? / This is a pen. (singular form, with verb "to be" in singluar)
• What are these? / These are pens. (plural form, with verb "to be" in plural)
• What is that? / That is a pen. (singular form, with verb "to be" in singluar)
• What are those? / Those are pens. (plural form, with verb "to be" in plural)
• What is that over there? / That over there is a pen. (singular form, with verb
"to be" in singluar)
• What are those over there? / Those over there are pens. (plural form, with
verb "to be" in plural)
ACTIVITY 1
POWER POİNT PRESENTATİON (APPENDİX 1)
• PROCEDURE:
• The teacher opens the PowerPoint Presentation and starts talking about the
topic.
• The teacher will explain how "demonstrative pronouns" are used , how the
grammatical forms are , and how "demonstrative pronouns are used with
singular and plural form"
• The teacher will also talk about what singular and plural form are.
• The teacher will give diffirent kinds of examples in order to  make the
subject clearer.
ACTIVITY 1
POWER POİNT PRESENTATİON (APPENDİX 1)

• Through the PowerPoint Presentation the students will understand how
"demonstrative pronouns" are used and how they can form sentences.

• Time: 15 minutes
ACTIVITY 2
ARRANGE THE BOARD WİTH STRUCTURES (Appendix
2)
• Procedure:
• The teacher gives student tape and ask them to stock the demonstrative
pronoun cards onto the board in a logical way,for example 
• Then in the space to the right of each sentence ask different students to
draw the animals that were used (e.g. a cat next to “This is a/an”, a cow
next to “That is a/an”, etc.).
• Time : 10 minutes
ACTIVITY 3
Play “All around the classroom”(Appendix 3)
• Procedure:
• The teacher sits the students on their desks and divides them into pairs.
Couples take turns asking questions and pointing out things like the
following in class:
• Student A: What is that over there?
Student B: That is a book.
Student A: No, next to the book.
Student B: Um, that is a pencil case.
Students A: Yes, that’s right!
ACTIVITY 3
Play “All around the classroom” (Appendix 3)

While the students are speaking, the teacher walks around the classroom and
helps with vocabulary and structures.
Allows the activity to run for about 5-10 minutes. He then conducts a
classroom check by asking different couples to stand up and show one of
their speeches to the class.
Time: 10 minutes 
ACTIVITY 4
Play the “this, that, these, those board game”

• PROCEDURE:
• Before the lesson, the teacher will print enough board games for 2-4
students per group. Each group will need one dice and one counter per
student. The teacher will place the students on a table in groups of 2-4 and
distribute board games. As a class, they will read through the instructions
and make sure everyone is clear on how to play.
• While everyone is playing the game, the teacher will walk around the
classroom to check for correct usage.
• Time : 10 minutes 
ACTIVITY 5 
Play “Run and touch the object”

• Procedure:
• The teacher ends with a fun, high-energy game.
• The teacher raises everyone to their feet. 
• he teacher says things happening in the classroom using demonstrative pronouns
and the students have to run and touch these objects. For example, if the teacher
says “These are pencils” the students should touch the pencils closest to the
teacher because it all depends on the teacher's location.
• Time: 10 minutes
