LIGHT
SELF INTRODUCTION

SUBJECT:PHYSICS
What is light ?
Light is a form of electromagnetic radiations that enables the human eye to see
or make things visible. It is also defined as radiation that is visible to the human
eye . Light enables us to see objects from which it comes or from which it is
reflected.
EXAMPLE :
WHAT IS REFLECTION OF LIGHT
The process of sending back the light rays which fall on the surface of an object ,is
called reflection of light.
OR
The phenomenon of bouncing back of light in the same medium on striking of any
object.
The objects having polished , shining surfaces reflect more light than objects having
unpolished , dull surfaces.
LAWS OF REFLECTION :
i) FIRST LAW OF REFLECTION : The incident ray ,the reflected ray ,and
the normal ,all lie at the same plane .
ii) SECOND LAW OF REFLECTION : The angle of reflection is always
equal to the angle of incidence.

TYPES OF IMAGES…
REAL IMAGE
The image which can be obtain on a screen is
called real image .
A real image is formed when light rays coming
from an object actually meet at a point after
reflection from a mirror .
Example:- The image formed on a cinema
screen is an example of real image.
VIRTUAL IMAGE

I) The image which cannot be obtain on a screen
is called virtual image .
II) A virtual image is formed when light rays
coming from an object only appear to meet at a
point when produced backwords after
reflection from a mirror .
III) example :the image of our face in a plane
mirror .

TYPES OF SPHERICAL
MIRRORS -S
CONCAVE MIRROR

A spherical mirror , whose reflecting surface

is curved inwards , that is faces towards the
centre of the sphere , is called concave mirror
.
CONVEX MIRROR

A convex mirror is that spherical mirror in

which the reflection of light takes place at
the bulging out surface or outward curved
surface is called convex mirror.
