TODAY’S LANGUAGE

cognitive style and affective factors)
2. Personal Needs ( knowledge, skills,
values & attitude to survive)
3. Social Factors ( general environment
and personal environment)
4. Selection of Appropriate Materials
( knowledge of Linguistics)
5. Presentation of Materials ( pedagogy)
6. Creation of Effective Environment
Friendly, explains things, gives good notes, lets
students do things by themselves, gives group
activities, elicits things which the students know, plays
games , tells jokes , doesn’t push weak learners, she’s
like an actress, asks students opinion, forceful but not
strict, knows psychology, uses movements to make
meanings clear, makes students believe in themselves,
experienced, makes grammar clear, uses questions a lot
and asks students to do practical work.

CHARACTERISTICS OF
GOOD LANGUAGE TEACHER
Very strict, doesn’t let students speak,
gives tests all the time, she is fixed in a
chair , dominates , forces students to do
things , starts the lesson immediately ,
shouts when students make mistakes,
keeps on talking, treats students like
objects, avoids answering questions and
she emphasizes she is the teacher

TRAITS OF A BAD
LANGUAGE TEACHER
Reading and writing can start from the first day if desired
Communicative Competence is the desired goal.
Linguistic variation is a central concept in materials and methodology
Sequencing is determined by any consideration of content, function or
meaning which maintains interest
Teachers helps learners in any way that motivates them to work with the
language.
Language is created by the individual often through trial and error
Students are expected to interact
Intrinsic motivation will spring from an interest in what is being
communicated by the language.

FEATURES OF CLT
meaning is paramount
Contextualization is a basic premise
Language learning is learning to communicate
Effective communication is sought
Drilling may occur but peripherally
Comprehensible pronunciation is sought
Any device which helps the learner is accepted(suited to age and interest)
Attempt to communicate maybe encouraged even at the beginning
Judicious use of native tongue maybe accepted where feasible
Translation maybe used where students need or benefit from it
