MALAYSIA
Hari Raya Puasa
- Hari Raya Puasa is celebrated by Muslims.
- The Muslims will fast for a whole month of Ramadhan.
- Early in the morning they will perform morning prayers in the mosque while
children ask for forgiveness from their parents.
- The children will get ‘Duit Raya’ or gift of money in green packets.
- Traditional Malay food such as rendang, ketupat, and lemang is served. .
Chinese New Year
- Chinese New Year celebrated by Chinese on the first day of the Chinese Lunar
Calender.
- A family reunited dinner will be held on the eve of the New Year.
- Early morning, giving red packets or ang pow containing money,visiting friends
and relatives,having family meals and gathering and watching lion and dragon
dance will be their activities.
- In Malaysia many people light fireworks during Chinese New Year.
Deepavali
- One of the most popular Hindu festivals celebrated in Malaysia.
- Deepavali means "the festival of lights".
- Hindus perform oil bath which signifies the cleaning of the body and soul.
- Firework displays are held at night and homes are decked up with lights and festoons.
- Huge and colourful kolams, or coloured rice powder patterns, are laid out.
- Lamps are lit at temples and homes to ward off evil.
- Can enjoy traditional food such as muruku, laddu, tosai, jilebi and more
Thaipusam
- The large Thaipusam festival in Malaysia is celebrated in Batu Caves.
- People carrying Kavadi
