Mass Calculations –

Standart Masses
031 – MASS AND BALANCE

PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
MASS CALCULATIONS

(Regulated) (Regulated)

MSRM MTOM MLM MZFM

-start/taxi + trip +TOF

(TOM) (TOM) (TOM) (TOM)

Select the lowest TOM above to find allowable TOM

2 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
MASS CALCULATIONS

ALLOWABLE TOM = DOM + TOF + ALLOWABLE TL

 Traffic Load or Take off Fuel must be determined

according to allowable take off mass

3 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
EXAMPLE QUESTION

MSTOM: 54 000 kg PLTOM: 50 000 kg

MSLM : 45 000 kg PLLM : 47 000 kg Block Fuel: 10 000kg
MSZFM: 40 000 kg Taxi Fuel: 500 kg Contingency: 1000 kg
MSRM : 60 000 kg Trip fuel: 7000 kg DOM : 30 000 kg

According to information given above, find the

values of allowable Take off Mass and allowable
Traffic Load?

4 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
EXAMPLE SOLUTION
Solution:
TOF= Block – taxi = 9500 kg

(Regulated) (Regulated)

MSRM : 60 000 kg MTOM : 50 000 kg MLM: 45 000 kg MZFM : 40 000 kg

-start/taxi : 500 kg + trip: 7000 kg +TOF : 9500 kg

59 500 kg 50 000 kg 52 000 kg 49 500 kg

Allowable TOM is selected as 49 500 kg ; then,
ALLOWABLE TOM = DOM + TOF + ALLOWABLE TL
49 500 = 30 000 + 9500 + TL
Allowable TL = 10 000 kg

5 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
STANDART MASSES
 The operator has to establish Dry Operating Mass and Traffic load either
using actual mass or using standart mass published in EUOPS if the actual
mass is knot known.

 The standart mass principle is applicable to flight crew, cabin crew and
passenger masses.

6 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
CREW
Flight Crew Cabin Crew

85 kg 75 kg
These values are inclusive of 6 kg hand baggage

7 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
PASSENGER(PAX)
Adult (+12) Children(2-12) Infant(0-2)

84 kg 35 kg Lap 0 kg
Own seat 35 kg
These values are inclusive of 6 kg hand baggage

8 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
PASSENGER(PAX)

To use standart mass for the passenger, minimum 30 seat is

required.

9 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
PASSENGER(PAX)
 If the number of seats is less than ten, then standart mass cannot
be used, a verbal statement is required to calculate aircraft gross
mass.

10 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
BAGGAGE

To use standart mass for the baggage, minimum 20 seat is

required.

Today standart mass is not used for baggage!

11 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
PASSENGER(PAX)
 If the passengers mass deviate from standart mass at a
significant margin, operatore should use actual mass of the
passengers or alter the standart mass.
Example:

84 kg 100 kg 84 kg 35 kg

12 PRT-031-06/REV.1 - 21.01.2022
WEIGHING MACHINE
The capacity of weighing machine for baggage are defined as follows:
 At least 150 kg
 Minimum 500 gr graduations
