GROUP TASK

• Groups read the assigned readings.


• Conduct a discussion to complete this group task.
• Fill in the following slides with notes, using the questions as a guide. You may also refer to other
sources, i.e. YT videos, to respond to the questions.
• Once the slides are complete, save the slides with group’s name, and appoint one representative
to post the slides in MS Team group’s own channels.
• Complete this task by today, 4 p.m.
*Note: Please don’t copy and paste. You are required to gather information from the different reading
sources. Use of own keywords or phrases are highly encouraged. Graphic organizers are allowed.
WHAT IS A DISCUSSION?

• A process of communication where a group of individuals exchange their


opinions and perspectives with each other to achieve a common objective
(solve problems / make decisions)
• A process of evaluating or judging one’s communication skills, team
spirit, leadership quantities and other managerial qualities.
WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES FOR CONDUCTING GROUP
DISCUSSIONS?

• To solve problems / make decisions


• To generate fresh ideas / suggestions and taking inputs from particular
groups
• As a chance to practise speaking and listening skills
• To enable the interviewer to select the best applicants from a pool of
candidates

• Topic-based (factual / controversial / abstract)


• Case-based (case study)

• Meetings [staff or team / parent-teacher / annual general meeting (AGM)]

In completing this group task, what do you think the group should have
done or do to make the discussion and task completion well executed?

• Give time to each other to do on reading or research before discussing
• Everyone has chance to give their opinions / perspectives / answers on the
task given
• Use appropriate or polite languages when giving ideas and agreeing or
disagreeing others

• Everyone need to point out their opinion and idea.
• Listen to every person in a group carefully before make any decision
• Make sure before make a final decision, every person in the group agree
and can go with it to avoid any misunderstanding or argument.

• Everyone in the group should be involved in the discussion and give their
opinions as well in order to have a smooth group discussion.
• Be responsive to the other members
• Avoid dominating group discussion, however being initiative in discussion
is encouraged.

• The group members need to know their members in the group, their
strengths and preferred ways of working.
• Try to recognise everyone opinion in the group and appoint one leader to
make it more smooth in the discussion.
