guide. “Look! Is that an animal on the log?” shouts
Paul. “Yes, let’s go and save it,” says the guide.

The water is moving fast. The guide rows over to

log and they save the animal. “It’s a baby monkey,”
says
Paul’s dad. “It’s cute. Let’s call it Zed. Mom, can we
take Zed home?” asks Paul. “No, it has to be here with
its family,” answers Paul’s mom. “We’ll put it back in
the jungle,” says Paul’s dad.

They go to the jungle to send Zed back home.

“Good-bye, Zed. Take care,” says Paul. “Let’s hurry.
It’s getting dark. The jungle is dangerous at night,”
says
the guide. “Be careful, Paul!” shouts his dad.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a large net under the leaves scoops them
up.
It’s a trap!
“The jungle people don’t want anyone else here,”
says
the guide. “Help! Help!” they all cry. Suddenly, the
net starts moving. “Hey! Zed is in the tree! It’s going
to save us!” yells Paul. Zed chews through the net and
they are free at last. “Let’s go back to the river before

My Favorite Birds

Owls are good nighttime friends. They sleep during the day and hunt at night. They
have large heads and big eyes. Owls cannot move their eyes, so they move their
heads to look around. I like owls because they look smart.

The sound of a woodpecker pecking is music to my ears. I do not think it is annoying

at all. Woodpeckers peck about a thousand (10,000) times a day. They drill into trees
with their strong beaks and catch bugs with their long tongues. They sometimes peck
trees to talk to other woodpeckers.

The hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world. Hummingbirds move their wings
very fast and this makes a humming noise. I think they are amazing because they can
even fly backwards. Like honeybees, hummingbirds drink sweet water from flowers.
