Room Service
• A hotel service enabling guest to choose items of
food and drink for delivery to their hotel room for
consumption.
• Room service may be provided on a 24-hour basis or
limited to late night hours only.
• Due to cost of customized orders and delivery of
room service, prices charged to the guest are
typically much higher than in hotel’s restaurant.
Benefits of having Room Service
• Guest can eat and drink within their own private
room in the hotel.
• Guest can order meals whenever they want.
• Convenience for guest with children and babies.
• Promotes safety, as guest are able to stay inside their
hotel room.
• Allows business guest to nourish themselves without
pausing their work.
• Provides a non-strenuous dining option for guest
with disabilities.
Downsides of having Room service
• Food and drinks are much more expensive
than average.
• Hot food can become cold before delivery to
the room.
• Guests cannot observe the food being
prepared.
• Room service menus are often limited.
Types of room service
• Centralized room service
Here all the food orders are processed from the main kitchen and sent to the
rooms by a common team of waiters.
• Decentralized room service
Each floors or a set of floor may have separate pantries to serve them. Orders
are taken at a central point and order-taker convey the order to respective
pantry.
• Mobile room service
This is the most interesting type of room service where one elevator is
dedicated to room service. This elevator works as a pantry. Guest call in the
same mobile pantry and place the order. It is less time consuming.
