THE DIGNITY OF A
HUMAN PERSON
a.) What is the dignity of the
human person?
• God, who created man in his image and likeness, has
called us to be with him and to be happy forever in
heaven. God Has given us our intelligence and our
will, in order to use them in our search for truth and
goodness, to become better persons, and to become
more like Christ, our model.
b.) Why is it important for an altar
server to know the dignity of man?
• We can only respond to this greatness or dignity of our
vocation by doing our part: by following God’s will,
growing in our spiritual life, and asking for God’s
grace to increase in virtues and to avoid sin.
THE BEATITUDES
a.) What are the beatitudes?
• The beatitudes are the standards set by Christ for his
followers, leading them to true happiness on earth and in the
world to come.
b.) Why is it important for an altar server
to know and live the beatitudes?

• A server must strive to keep himself and his friends

happy and living the beatitudes and by teaching them
to do so too.
FREEDOM AND
CONSCIENCE
a.) What are the Freedom and
Conscience
• Freedom is the power to act or not to act, and therefore
to do deliberate actions.

• Conscience is the judgmental that one makes through

which he acknowledges the goodness or badness of a
concrete action.
b.) Why is it important for an altar server to
understand the Freedom and Conscience are?

• To choose to disobey God and to do evil is an abuse of our

freedom, makes us slaves of sin.
• We all have the obligation of forming our conscience, so as
have a correct judgement at all times, as much as possible.
HUMAN VIRTUES
a.) What is virtues?
• Virtue is a habit which inclines a person to do good
and to avoid evil; the opposite of virtues is vice.

• There are two classes of virtues: human virtues and

theological virtues.
b.) What are human virtues?
• Human virtues are virtues that guide our actions and control
our passions according to our reason and faith.

• They can be acquired and grow through our own efforts, by

consciously developing certain habits and persevering in
them.
c.) What are the four cardinal
virtues?
1. PRUDENCE is the virtue which disposes us in all circumstances
to form right judgements about what is good, and choose the right
means and achieve it.
2. JUSTICE is the virtue which disposes us to give God and our
fellow men what belongs to them.
3. FORTITUDE is the virtue which disposes us to do what is good in
spite of any difficulty.
4. TEMPERANCE is the virtues which disposes us to moderate our
attraction towards the things which please our senses, and
disposes us to use rightly things that we have.
 d.) Why is it important for an altar server
to know and acquire the human virtues?

• The servers should be good examples to their friends and help them
acquire good habits little by little.
THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES:
FAITH, HOPE, CHARITY
a.) What are Theological virtues?

• Theological virtues are the virtues that directly

disposes us to live in a relationship with God. These
are Faith, Hope and Charity.
b.) What is Faith, Hope and
Charity?
• Faith is the virtue by which we firmly believe in all truths
that he has revealed, and which our mother the church
teaches us as being part of our belief.
• Hope is the virtue by which we firmly trust that God, who is
all-powerful and faithful to his promises, will in his mercy
give us eternal happiness and the means to obtain it.
• Charity is the virtue by which we love God above all things
for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love
of God.
 
c.) Why is it important for an altar server to know
and acquire the Theological virtues?

• A server should show love towards his neighbors, and even

towards his enemies.
GIFTS AND FRUITS
OF THE HOLY
SPIRITS
a.) What are the Gifts and fruits
of the holy spirits
• The gifts of the holy spirit are supernatural habits
which perfect the soul beyond the virtues, enabling it
to respond easily and joyfully to the prompting of the
holy spirit.
b.) What are the fruits of the holy
spirit?
• The fruits of the holy spirit are the consequences of the
presence of the holy spirit and his gifts in the soul.
• These are twelve fruits of the holy spirits:

• Charity • Longanimity • Fidelity

• Joy • Goodness • Modesty
• Peace • Benignity • Continence
• Patience • Mildness • Chastity
c.) Why is it important for an altar server to
know and ask the fruits of the holy spirit?

• A server should respond joyfully to the prompting of

the holy spirit because through these, God guides us
and makes us know his will for us.
