script. An impromptu speech is given on the sport or without preparation; extemporaneous speech is
prepared with an outline as guide. Each type of delivery if speech has advantages and disadvantages
according to the need and situation.

• Read from a manuscript
Manuscript speaking is the word-for-word iteration of a written message. In a
manuscript speech,
The speaker maintains his or her attention on the printed page except when using
visuals aids.
The advantage to reading from a manuscript is the exact repetition of original
words.

EXAMPLE:A speech given by a congressman on a legislative bill under

consideration. A report read out by a Chief engineer a an Annual General
Meeting. A speech read during an international conference. A President’s or
Prime Minister’s address.

Disadvantage: -Copying is expensive, labor intensive and time consuming

-Manuscripts were fragile and difficult to handle, and they were

large and heavy, making them difficult to carry.
• Memorized
-A memorized speech is when a speaker commints an enture speech o
memory. This style also harms relation with the audience because the speaker is
more focused on remembering the text of speech rather than communicating
with the audience.

-Speech is prepared and memorized before the speaking event

-Same weaknesses as manuscript
-Harms connection with audience even more than manuscripted speeches
because the focus of the speaker on remembering the text rather than
communicatin and relating an audience.

The advantage of memorizing your speech is you can plan every word making
them most of your speech time
The disadvantage of memorizing your speech is you might not sound fresh and
your audience may perceivie it more as a performance than speech
• Impromptu
Impromptu speaking is a speech that a person delivers without
predertermination or preparation. The speaker is most commonly provided with
their topic in the form of a quotation, but the topic may also be presented as an
object, proverb, one-word abstract, or one of the many alternative possibilities

For example, introducing yourself when you meet someone is impromptu

speaking. Saying hello to an acquaintance you see at the grocery store, that’s
also impromptu speaking

Advantages: build self-confidence in speaking, and speak spontaneously

Disadvantages: lack of speaking, not suitable for important occasions and the
lack of vocabularies
• Extemporaneous
As extemporaneous speech requires thorough preparation, it is important to keep
some tips in and when creating an impromptu speech tips in mind when creating
an impromptu speech

-To make your extemporaneous speech sound professional, choose the one
presentation structure and stick to it

-Prepare to keep in contact with your audience.

-Prepare giving an impromptu speech in advance. However, don’t try to learn

everything by heart. Point out the main points and develop them into speech.

The advantage of this kind of speaking is that it’s spontaneous and responsive in
an animated group context.
The disadvantage is that the speaker is given little or no time to contemplate the
central theme of his or her message, As a result, the message maybe disorganized
and difficult for listeners to follow
