▪ reinforcement and indicate that you are
▪ listening.

▪ You communicate numerous messages by the way you walk, talk,
▪ stand and sit.
▪ • Standing erect, but not rigid, and leaning slightly forward
▪ communicates that you are approachable, receptive and
▪ friendly.
▪ • Speaking with your back turned or looking at the floor or ceiling
▪ should be avoided; it communicates disinterest to listener.

PROXIMITY (nearness):
▪ Do you feel uncomfortable when someone stands too close to you? Do
very bright colors in a room make you feel distracted? These questions
are important to the study of proxemics.

▪ Basically, proxemics is the study of space and how we use it, how it
makes us feel more or less comfortable, and how we arrange objects and
ourselves in relation to space.

Paralinguistic
▪ Paralanguage involves tone and nonverbal aspects of
speech that influence meaning, including how loudly or
softly you are speaking, intensity, pausing, and even
silence.
