Introduction:-
⮚ Graphic design layout refers to the way in which we arrange the elements on a page which makes up the
content of a design.
⮚ The aim of layout is both to convey the message correctly and to present information in a logical and
coherent way to making the important elements stand out. Investing into the best logo design canmake
the content
easier to understand.
⮚ Let’s take
an example
of the classic
newspaper
layout.
Graphic Layout Meaning:-

 Layout basically means the arrangement of

predetermined items such as image, text and style on
a page.

 It establishes the overall appearance and

relationships between the graphic elements to achieve
a smooth flow of message and eye movement for
maximum effectiveness or impact.

 You just decide on placement, color, text, etc. for

items you already have.
What is layout design?

 In a nutshell, layout design refers to

the arrangement of visual elements
within a grid in order to convey a
particular message.
 Grids are useful in layout design
because they help structure and
organize
content.
Why layout is important while
designing?
 Layouts make it easier to convey the message correctly and to present information in a logical and
coherent way to making the important elements stand out.

Graphic Design Layout Rules:-
A layout is the heart of any design.
There are 5 rules for graphic design layout.
 The Grid
 Emphasis and scale
 Balance
 Rule of thirds
 Rule of odds
1. Very first rule is Grid:-
 In modern web design, clean grid lines have
become popular and almost impossible to
avoid.

 As grids make your designs cleaner, more

efficient and easier to adapt.
2. Emphasis and Scale:-
 The eye generally needs a place to rest
or something of interest to hold on.

 Figuring out the focal point of the

design will give your eye the guide it
requires to structure the composition,
as well as organically build hierarchy.
3. To balance:-
 Everything in life has to have balance.

 Balance all your elements, so that the

message is not distorted. You should
always place your elements in the
center of the page, keeping the margins
on all edges.
4. Rule of Thirds:-
 Use guides to divide your work area into an
equal three-by-three grid.

 It is inescapable in design. It’s a fundamental

guideline that’s so simple and effective, it often
feels like a cheat: divide your design into three
rows and three columns.
5. The Rule of Odds:-
 It says that pleasing compositions
seem to often have an odd number of
elements placed in the foreground,
most commonly three.

 The two objects on the outside both

balance the focal point in the center,
creating a simple, natural balance.
Importance of Layout in Graphic Design
Material:-
 Layout plays a significant role in a graphic design.

 The success of a layout depends on the

arrangement of the individual visual
elements and relationship — or visual
hierarchy — formed between them.
All graphic designers must keep this in
mind at all times when creating
advertisements, promotional materials
and works or art.

 In a website design for example, layout is

extremely important to make the site
user-friendly, functional and make it look attractive for customers to stay on the site.
