IMPACT OF FASHION TRENDS TO

THE FASHION STYLE OF FIRST
YEAR HOME ECONOMICS
STUDENTS OF TUP-MANILA

Topic #1
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Fashion has become really relevant nowadays, especially to the new generation.
Fashion trends are everywhere and are always present on different platforms.
According to Manyam et. al, (2018), in their survey conducted, 49% of 100
students learned about the newest fashion trends on social media and other
platforms such as television and print media. Additionally, the researchers found
out that social media sites were more effective in disseminating knowledge
about fashion trends.
According to Lewis, K. (2021), fashion has a huge impact on our society, and it
also affects towards having a better lifestyle and spreading awareness as well.
Students want to stand out through their appearance in their social circle.
Students express their feelings and beliefs through their fashion and appearance.
In addition to this, particularly for students, fashion offers some individuality
and lets us be whoever we want to be. Some individuals claim that it's a means
of self-expression. Everyone is a part of it, and it is present everywhere.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research, entitled "Impact of Fashion Trends to the Fashion Style of first
year Home Economics Students of TUP-Manila", is all about determining if
handicrafts can really affect in developing their skills and creativeness. In line
with this, the researchers sought answers to the following questions.
1. Profile of the respondents, in terms of:
1.1. Name
1.2. Gender
2. What are the most common fashion styles of the students?
3. How do the students choose their fashion style?
4. What are the effects of fashion trends to their fashion choices and styles?
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers will use quantitative methodology - non-
experimental design, employing correlational technique. In this
matter, this study provides a formal, objective and systematic
process in which numerical data will be used to attain information
about the relationship of two (2) variables.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
The researchers are expecting the following outcomes:
 To gain insights about the effects of fashion trends to the fashion
styles and choices of the students
 To produce a product and ideas on fashion designs that is made or
created by the researchers
 Students will have an idea on redesigning or recycle clothes,
blouses, dresses, and other fashion garments

“MEASURING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF

DIY HANDICRAFTS TO THE RESOURCE
MANAGEMENT OF FIRST YEAR HOME
ECONOMICS STUDENTS - TUP-MANILA”

Topic #2
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Craft skill learning is a complex process that includes knowledge of working postures, materials, and
tools (Tynjälä, 2007).This knowledge is procedural and tacit by nature (Bereiter, 2002; Toom, 2012), and
becomes visible through actions (Syrjäläinen, 2003). According to Dewey (1916), the knowledge in
making crafts is socially constructed, and hence blended in communities of practice and transmitted by
interaction, e.g. between a master and the apprentice, who observes the actions of the expert. Further,
transmission of this knowledge, i.e. skill learning, requires a “learning-by-doing” symbiotic relationship
between the learner and the objects, such as materials and tools (Dewey, 1916). In this way, a motor skill
develops gradually by practicing, as well as skills in resource management. Nevertheless, the instructor's
role in motor skill learning is to provide a model, scaffolding and feedback for the learner (Moore,
1989). Moreover, by verbalizing his/her actions the instructor offers a model of the used procedures and
metacognitions for the learner (Syrjäläinen, 2003).
According to Vohra, A. (2019), arts and crafts should be an essential part of the curriculum, because it
can really improve and contribute a huge impact to the students’ skills including resource management
and other skills. Also, in view of the academics-oriented performance parameters prioritized by parents
and education institutions. “Natural resources are the valued components of the Earth and the building
blocks for our quality of life” (Anderson, 2010). According to D'Augustino (2018) The youth or the
students must know the importance of being able to manage resources in order to increase their resource
management skills.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research entitled “Measuring the Effectiveness of DIY Handicrafts to the Resource Management of
first year Home Economics Students" is all about determining if DIY handicrafts can really improve the
students’ skills in resourcefulness as well as artistry. Also, to find out the relationship between DIY
handicrafts and the resource management of the students. In line with this, the researchers sought
answers to the following questions:
1. Profile of the respondents, in terms of:
1.1. Name
1.2. Age
1.3. Gender
2. What is the level of the resourcefulness of the students before the treatment?
3. What is the level of the resourcefulness of the students after the treatment?
4. What are the effects of DIY Handicrafts to the resource management of the students?
RESEARCH DESIGN
This research entitled “Measuring the Effectiveness of DIY
Handicrafts to the Resource Management of first year Home
Economics Students" will use quantitative methodology -
employing experimental technique. This is to determine if DIY
handicrafts can develop skills as well as improving the
resourcefulness of the students.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
The researchers are expecting the following outcomes:
 To determine the effects of DIY Handicrafts to the Resource Management of the
students

 Experimental group will develop/gain knowledge about creating handicrafts

 Recycling, redesigning and recreating craft materials

 All respondents will produce a handicraft product

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PRICES

INCREASE AND THE BUDGET
MANAGEMENT OF THE SECOND YEAR
HOME ECONOMICS STUDENTS ”

Topic #3
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In the current situation, back to back news reporting the Price Increase
rate in the Philippines is continuously increasing together with other
countries. According to De Guzman, W. (2022), some students are cutting
back on basic necessities to overcome the price increase of food,
dormitory rent and even tuition. In regard to this, there are some students
looking for part-time jobs to help with those expenses due to price
increases. "Colleges aren't immune." (Carpenter, 2022). She also added
that she and her family also, or even other families experiencing higher
prices on school supplies, and other school related expenses.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority. Summary Inflation Report Consumer Price
Index 2019, Price Increase and budget management correlates each other. The price increase
might force you to cut out luxuries and “tighten your belt” to keep up with the rising cost-of-
living. These small increases in expenses can also lessen your disposable income and erode
the value of your savings over time. Just like with students, the more the price increases, the
more that they save their allowance on projects, laboratory activities and other expenses.
They budget their money to lessen the shortage. It has an impact on budget management and
pricing increases. The cost of food and gasoline is rising, which can be difficult on a budget.
Everything seems to be more expensive everywhere you turn. Numerous college students are
in this situation, which affects millions of them. Let's examine how students are being
impacted by growing costs in more detail. According ( Drozdowski, 2022). It's never easy to
be a college student on a limited budget, and recent price rises are making it even harder to
get by. Colleges won't be saved by pricing, in reality. People are paying more for labor, food,
gasoline, and other utilities since practically everything is more expensive these days—for
example, vehicles, food, housing, and petrol. Meal-planning expenses are also rising. As food
prices continue to rise, students are now required to pay more for food provided on campus.
Additionally, the cost of transportation is increasing, which affects students' budgets.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study, entitled "The Correlation between Price Increase and the Budget Management of the
second year Home Economics students" seeks to determine how the "price increase" is related to the
budget management of the students, especially in budgeting their expenses in laboratory subjects.
Moreover, this study aims to measure students skills in budgeting and management during the increase
of prices. To obtain knowledge, data and information, the researchers sought answers to the following
questions:
1. What is the correlation between Price Increase and Budget Management of the students?
2. Does Price increase affect the students' skills in budgeting their allowance on laboratory subjects?
3. What is the impact of price increase to their budgeting, in terms of:
3.1. Meal Budget
3.2. Transportation Budget
3.3. Expenses in Laboratory subjects
4. What budget management strategy do students have gained after the price increase?
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study used quantitative methodology - utilizing correlational
technique. In this research, it seeks to determine the relationship
between price increase and budget management of the students. In
this matter, this study will be providing a systematic gathering of
data concerning the relationship between the two (2) variables.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
The researchers are expecting the following outcomes:
● To evaluate how pricing relates to the way that students manage their
budgets.
● Acknowledge the purpose of a budget, the people who decide on it, how it
operates, how it impacts them, and how to meaningfully contribute to it.
● Students will have an idea on how to effectively allocate their budget.
● Students will develop skills in budget management
