“Problems related to Acquisition of
land in Bangladesh “
 What is Acquisition ?
According to the Acquisition and
Requisition of Immovable Property
Act, 2017 “Acquisition means
acquiring the ownership and
possession of any immovable
property for any requiring person
or organization in exchange for
compensation or rehabilitation or
both”.
 This presentation is based on
restrictions of Acquisition and
Requisition immovable
property Act ,2017
▪ Objects of Acquisition

The object of an acquisition is to

empower the authority to acquire
land for public purposes only. And
compensation must be paid for the
acquisition, according to the law.
 Problems related to acquisition of immovable
property

• The main purpose of acquisition is public

interest, but the term “public interest” is
not clearly mentioned in the Acquisition
and Requisition of Immovable Property Act.
• There is not adequate time given to file
objections.
• There is no provision against harassment of
landowners.
• If the compensation given to the landowner
is insufficient, no opportunity is given to file
a suit in court.

 Solving the land acquisition
problem
The problems related to land acquisition
can be solved by some amendments to the
Acquisition and Requisition of Immovable
Property Act, 2017. The Acquisition Act
must include a clear description of public
interest objectives. Necessary amendments
to the Act will be adopted.Land acquisition
limits for private projects should be fixed.
Adequate time should be allowed for filing

objections.
 ▪ The process by which
government can take property
from others by paying
compensation for a public
purpose is called acquisition.
Some problems have arisen in
land acquisition. To solve these
problems, some amendments
should be made to the
Acquisition and Requisition of
Immovable Property Act 2017 ,
only then the acquisition issues
will be fruitful.
