INTRODUCTION
• In this project we have calculated the mean, median,
mode, standard deviation and variance of the marks in
Break Through English of the group as well as our
class. We have also compared the values and represented
them graphically.
MEAN
The arithmetic
mean is the most
commonly used
and readily
understood
measure of central
tendency in a data
set. In statistics,
the term average
refers to any of the
measures of
central tendency.
The arithmetic
mean of a set of
observed data is
defined as being
equal to the sum of
the numerical
values of each and
every observation
divided by the total
number of
observations.

MEDIAN
The median is a number in statistics that tells
you where the middle of a data set is. ... The
median formula is {(n + 1) ÷ 2}th, where “n” is
the number of items in the set and “th” just
means the (n)th number. To find the median,
you must first order the numbers from smallest
to largest. Then find the middle number.

MODE

The mode of a set of

data values is the
value that appears
most often. If X is a
discrete random
variable, the mode is
the value x at which
the probability mass
function takes its
maximum value. In
other words, it is the
value that is most likely
to be sampled.

STANDARD DEVIATION

In statistics, the standard

deviation is a measure that is
used to quantify the amount of
variation or dispersion of a set of
data values.

VARIANCE

In probability theory and statistics,

variance is the expectation of the
squared deviation of a random variable
from its mean. Informally, it measures
how far a set of numbers are spread out
from their average value.
