• Description:
– Work health and safety is relevant in every organization and is directly
impacted by a variety of governing bodies and legislative frameworks
both on a local and national level. In this Course, students are
introduced to work health and safety laws from local, national and
international perspectives. Course develops the students' skills in
applying various work health and safety legislation and guidance
materials to achieve a safe and healthy workplace.

Course Goals
• This course will:
– Provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to
effectively comply with occupational safety, health and environmental
regulations and standards, when functioning as a safety and health
professional
– Prepare the student to function in an ethical manner in all safety, health and
environmental responsibilities and activities
– Prepare students to operate within a regulatory environment, including
participation in legislative and litigation aspects of the legal system

Course Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the legal framework for work/occupational health and
safety
2. Synthesize the factors that have influenced the development of
work/occupational health and safety law in a variety of jurisdictions
3. Apply work/occupational health and safety legislation and other relevant
resources to ensure compliance and controlling occupational and
environmental health hazards
4. Apply various international standards, e.g., ISO 45001, OSHA, NEBOSH etc
