Mole and gas volumes

MR. WHITTAKER
How much gas particles are in this balloon?
Equal volumes of gasses at the same temperature and pressure
contains the same number of molecules.
Since 1 mol of any gas contain 6.02x10^23 molecules of that gas,
Avogadro’s
if the number of molecules in each gas is 6.02x10^23, then it
follows that 1 mol of all gases under the same conditions of Law
temperature and pressure have the same volume.

Molar volume is the volume occupied by 1 mol of a gas.

 At standard temperature and pressure – S.T.P. (O degrees
Celsius, 760 mmHg) – molar volume = 22.4dm3 mol
 At room temperature and pressure- R.T.P. (20 degrees
Celsius, 760 mmHg) molar volume= 24dm3 mol
Some conversions

a). Volume of gas to number of moles

# of moles = volume of gas / 22.4dm^3 ( at S.T.P)
# of moles = volume of gas / 24dm^3 ( at R.T.P)
b). Number of moles to volume of gas
Volume of gas = # of moles x 22.4dm^3 (at S.T.P)
Volume of gas = # of moles x 24dm^3 (at R.T.P)
